Why couldnt the chinese have stayed with the simple early ones? maybe I could remember them instead of struggling with the current characters.

Because not all chinese can be stayed with the simple early ones. Most of them are difficult to wittern in this way, such as some words with abstract concepts like 有 (have) and 无 (don't have). Right?

surprisingly for cloud, 云 is in simplified chinese and thus a modern form while the traditional chinese from 雲 with rain on top of cloud, more complex one, was the early form...

Yes, I'm also surprised by the character 云. These pictures must be made for a better learning, not for archeology on evolution of Chinese characters. :)
