Do you want to have a private tour guide? Usually, some travel agencies can help you to find some good tour guides, who are not only capable in speaking good English, but also experts in guiding your travel.

It depends on where you go. If you go to the big cities like Beijing or Shanghai, you will not have big troubles without a translator.

I wonder if there are some people who'd like to be my free guide when I travel at other countries other than China?

I would be prepared to help someone if they visit my home town in England. After all the best person to show you round must be a local.

Peter, re hotels, it all depends what category of hotel... only the top business hotels might have this service. Generally, translator services depend on professional level. Students will often do it for free (you pay costs and a meal); then there are many would be professionals and tourist professionals, and then the true professionals who really know the business world and really add value. I guess you dont need the business professional from what you say. If you want mnore than a student, most others would earn upto 3000rmb pm in big cities so base your calculations on that

You think so? A last minute trip- a one on one guide, the days started at 8am and lasted till 10 or 10:30. 7 people replied before me and no one bothered to answer his question, other than you. I had 2 days to see all of Beijing, I could have saved my money and seen a quarter of what I saw, or joined a tour group with 20 people.

I'm amused that you think it was an absurdly high price since, as a translation professional working in China for the last 9 years, I think it is an absurdly low price. I wonder which one of us is right? Marian Rosenberg General Manager Haikou #1 Translation Agency +86 1351 883 8911
