 | wondering how much i should pay for a person to travel around with me to translate whilst i tour a city in free time from a tour. is this service usually arranged by the hotel where one stays or are there special hostes agencies?? |

| Do you want to have a private tour guide? Usually, some travel agencies can help you to find some good tour guides, who are not only capable in speaking good English,but also experts in guiding your travel. |

| It depends on where you go. If you go to the big cities like Beijing or Shanghai, you will not have big troubles without a translator. |

| Peter, re hotels, it all depends what category of hotel... only the top business hotels might have this service. Generally, translator services depend on professional level. Students will often do it for free (you pay costs and a meal); then there are many would be professionals and tourist professionals, and then the true professionals who really know the business world and really add value. I guess you dont need the business professional from what you say. If you want mnore than a student, most others would earn upto 3000rmb pm in big cities so base your calculations on that |

| You think so? A last minute trip- a one on one guide, the days started at 8am and lasted till 10 or 10:30. 7 people replied before me and no one bothered to answer his question, other than you. I had 2 days to see all of Beijing, I could have saved my money and seen a quarter of what I saw, or joined a tour group with 20 people. |
