Hi, I'm just curious. If a foreigner arrives at China, e.g. June 1 and leaves July 1, do he/she have to ask an extension for the visa of 30 days?? Or it's ok to stay the extra one day??

Don't try it if you can avoid it. I left one year the day after my visa expired and the customs examiner was none to happy but his supervisor shrugged it off anf told him not to fuss.

but of course this will depend on who you get and the mood of the moment.

The fine for overstaying your visa/residence permit is 500 yuan per day up to a maximum of 5000 yuan- meaning if you overstay by more than 10 days you just pay 5000. But as Jabarootoo says, although you might get away with a little indiscretion, you certainly should not try it.

Generally, the visa states an end date, it dose not state a number of days. Therefore, there should be no misunderstanding.

Thanks for your input. I'm just curious and I won't try it since I'm a Chinese.
