if u wanna pay a visit to yunan province&shanghai during jul-aug.
i'd like to offer a english tour guide service for u from shanghai to yunnan province.As i am a college student in shanghai ,i will spend my summer vacation in my hometown--dali,yunnan.and i am familiar with these two cities,i also have many good trip tips and recommendations for u.

I think you are probably back to school by now, but I am interested in traveling to Yunnan during the October holiday, and I was wondering if I could ask you a couple of questions... what is the best way to get to Dali from Shanghai? Do you take a train or a plane?
Do you think it is going to be very very crowded during the holiday? Are there smaller towns I could visit that would be less crowded?

Any help you can offer would be great!

"Best" is subjective. Are you keener to save money, or time?
I would probably pick to fly Shanghai -- Kunming then take overnight train, or bus, for Kunming -- Dali.
Yes, it would be extremely crowded.
For less crowded places a better understanding of Chinese would be helpful. Try to get a copy of the Lonely Planet Southwest China guidebook.
