Is it possible to hire car and driver in Guilin? I thought about a day in Longji / Longsheng to photograph the terraces (not sure how far it is ). Or is there a better way to see them where I can stop when I need to?

My experience with taxi cab drivers in China is that many freelance; You can rent the car and the driver for a day. Most recently, I paid 500 RMB for the day. I am wondering if others can say what they recently paid and where? If you are lucky, your driver will know quite a bit about the place you would like to visit. This was the case when I traveled to a small village outside Kunming.

Guilin, possibly the arrival point for you trip to Longsheng, and because it is probably more traveled by tourists, could be more expensive but perhaps not. Let us hope that others will tell us what they paid for a day's worth of private car hire and driver. Good luck - I want to visit Longsheng too!
