GUEST59166 I am not sure who has given you the wrong info. India does not have Mig 35. It wants to buy 120 some jets to replace the old Mig 21s but as of yet have not decided which aircraft they would by from the international tender. On the other hand Mig 29 fleet is getting an upgrade from Russia which will cost close to a Billion Dollars. They wont be called Mig 35 as the MIG 35 had a slightly different air fare as it uses thrust vectors. Not available on MIG 29. From What is understood is that the Mig 29 upgrade would make a huge difference as it will have brand new engine and radar that is used on the new MIG 35.

GUEST17156 India does not have Mig 35 but I'do think they are most likely to chose Mig over the other fighters simply because there production facilities are a customed to Mig 29 so it won't be hard for them to adjust.Secondly russia will be willing to transfer alot of technology than USA will and thirdly India want's 126 fighters,if you do the maths, then the Mig it the only fighter they can get without being overbudget.China cannot build B1,B2 or Tu160 because they dont have the technology but if you give them 7 to10 years they will be able to do it.

GUEST24686 According to many defense strategists/analysts including many non Indians, the amount of, as well as the stretch of air-interests India needs to protect & support, requires for India, at least full 45 squadrons of fighter planes in good working condition. But according to latest reports, India have only around 30 squadrons of fighter planes. That too taking into account the obsolete and frighteningly malfunctioning Mig-21 fighters. If one counts them off then the number of squadrons reduces to a meagre 20 or so. With India's indigenously built LCA "Tejas" is not complete at all & lagging far behind schedule, one can understand that India needs these 126 fighter planes desperately. Another point is, India never had or ordered any Mig-35 as well as Su-33. India only have Mig-29 and Su-30. Only China have Su-33 and also probably Mig-35. China also have the latest Israeli fighters. Even China's self developed fighters are technically far superior & already in action, than what India's "Tejas" LCA is projected to be in 2012(the earliest projected launch time). So one can clearly see that India have not even completely secured its interests at home, let alone be a super power in the aerial combat section or even a threat(?).
