funny how hand symbols develop for very different reasosn in different parts of the world - single hand counting in china took me by surprise the first time I encountered it.

Depending on which was the hand is faced...

In some cultures it is known as something equalling the middle finger.
In some others it may be accepted as a sign of peace.
