Shangri-la Explorer Beyond N.W. Yunnan

This tour encompasses experiences of enjoying stunning natural beauty in an area blessed with vast biodiversity and it is also a botanist's paradise.

At the same time many of the 22 minority peoples living in this region will be met along the way and you will learn at first hand about their lifestyle, traditions and culture. Just to name a few are Naxi Bai and Yi.

The scenery can be described as no less than breathtaking at times as you are never far away from snow clad mountains such as the Jade Dragon Snow Mountains 5596 meters high and the awe inspiring Meili snow mountain range with its majestic Kawagebo sacred unconquered mountain rising to a pyramid peak at a height of 6,740 meters and considered by some as the real Shangri-La mountain area as depicted in the famous story Lost Horizons.

Pleasant hours will also be enjoyed in the old lakeside town of Dali and in ambling along the cobbled streets of Lijiang, now listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage site .

At Zhongdian a large Tibetan monastery can be visited and in this Shangri-La area the main population is Tibetan and you will, in fact, travel close to the border of the Tibetan Autonomous Region (TAR) from the eastern border area of the Himalaya range and the Tibetan Plateau, from where the three parallel rivers the Salween, the Mekong and the Yangtze are sourced.

This tour is ideal for those wishing to enjoy the many faceted aspects of this region of S.W.China.
