We plan to visit China this autumn, from Sep. 10 to Sep. 28. When should we apply for our tourist ? Is August or early September OK??

It is better to apply for your visa one month in advance.

This time is better that August/first week of sept as this is still holidays.

We had to apply no more than 3 months before in the UK.

You can start to apply a China visa now, since the visa will be valid for 6 months after the issued date.

How long will it take a residence permit in china? I will be working there nextmonth but I'm still in korea processing my Z visa.

Your Z visa is valid for a single entry of 30 days. Your employer is required to apply for the residence permit within 30 days.... not a problem if it is not completed before the Z expires
