Can you feel pain of others?

Have you ever said " I can feel your pain" to someone who is depressed or frustrated? When you said that, you may not actually feel pain of others. Your intention might be to comfort the depressed.

However, a recent study conducted by a group of British researchers at University College London shows that there exists "a link between certain aspects of the tactile system and empathy"

"They said watching someone being touched triggers the same part of the brain as actual touch, and this connection helps explain how we understand what other people are feeling."( source: YAHOO)

No matter there exists "a link between certain aspects of the tactile system and empathy"
or not, we try our best to make those depressed feel better. If we succeed, that would be ok.
