In China, almost all the banks have their VIPs. Generally speaking, they are rich and have lots of money deposited at the bank. The banks offter golden card to them and they can enjoy some rights compared those ordinary people. However, a little thing happened at a branch of IRBC in Beijing has aroused heated discussions.

A woman who held a golden card of IRBC entered the branch and tried to jump the queue and said that she had the golden card so that she should deposit first. This made others at the bank angry. They would not let the woman jump the queue. But the manager said that those who held golden cards were the VIPs and they should offer service to them first. That is the rule.

For the banks, mayge it is right because they make more profits from those VIPs. For ordinary people, we can not accept this. Some of them said that the VIPs should not jump the queue. The rich enjoy some privileges. That is not fair.

How do you view this? Any comments?

I encountered that kind of thing in Bank of China too. It's a sunday and about ten of us were queue in two lines. Only two cashier worked for us and suddenly a woman came inside. She's VIP of the bank and the bank clerk asked us to wait for a moment. "The VIP should be served first", said the clerk. All of us were angry and annoyed.

I don't think it's the mistake of those VIPs. It's the banks should be blamed. As I mentioned before, it was a sunday. And fewer clerk worked at that day. So is the clerk for VIPs. Why not a VIP clerk for those VIPs during the weekends? And let the ordinary clerk to serve we ordinary clients.

Clearly you need more competition in the banking sector.... the situations you describe are similar to those that existed in England thirty or more years ago, before savings 'societies' started to compete with the main banks. The battle between the increased number of banking service providers then developed over who could offer the best customer service. I hope you don't have to wait too long before you receive better standards of service. With so much wealth now being generated in China maybe even the gold card customers will have to suffer standing in the 'gold-card' queue. Good Luck!

VIP's always VIP. So they will get preference every where. Mainly, law made by the VIP's influence, so we have nothing to do.

Banks call these VIPs "high net worth" individuals. In other coutries, they are considered "Priority Customers" and they have their own private service counters or even a lounge area to serve them.

There's nothing unusual about banks offering special privileges to their priority customers.
