Hi, We are coming to China in Sept and I'm just trying to work out spending money. We are on an organised tour and everything is pretty much included. We just need money for incidentals such as cool drinks ect. Could anyone give a rough cost on a can of soft drink, milk (if it's sold there), bottled water, a big Mac LOL, dvd's, just general stuff. Thanks in advance.

Can of soft drink: 3-5 RMB in stores, 5-10 RMB in restaurants Milk: 3-10 RMB depending on size Bottled water: 0.8 RMB is the cheapest I've seen so far for a 500ml bottle McDonald's value meal: 20+ RMB DVDs: 5-10 RMB

Oh, don't worry. China has nearly everything you listed! For soft drink, about 2 RMB for a bottle of mineral water or pure water; 3 to 4RMB for a bottle of orange juice or Coca-cola; 1 to 2 RMB for a small bag of pure milk. What I say is the prices in super market. Usually food or drink in super market is cheaper than retail shops. But if you're in star hotel or restaurant, the prices will be much higher to even five times of that in super market!

I just caught up with about 3-4 months worth of posts, I don't check regularly here anymore. Won't be going to either, I'm leaving tomorrow morning for a month-long trip.
