Hi, everyone!

My husband and I are new in Shanghai and wanted to explore a little further than Shanghai. We were told that Suzhou is one of the places to visit. Incidentally, his birthday is coming up and I want to surprise him by planning a trip to Suzhou by myself. (He always does it). I will need all the help & insights you can give about a great trip to Suzhou. -- And, oh, is ferry to Suzhou a good idea? Or, the bus is the best way to go?

Appreciate it! Have a blessed day!:)

Thanks! -- I may have failed to mention that I don't Chinese, which may post a problem in communicating what I/we may want to accomplish. Actually, I've been reading Stoctov's and a couple of other writers...:)

I appreciate the response! Have a great day!

Welcome to Suzhou!

I’m Jason – Suzhou native.

How many days will you stay in Suzhou?

You can take train or bus to Suzhou. Then, hire a cycle rickshaw to travel around Suzhou. But it's very hot in these days. The best way to hire a vehicle to travel around Suzhou.

Below website for your reference.

Have a nice day!

Thanks, again! I just saw the website. Got more excited! And more confused where to go! Hahaha. We just have a weekend to be there.

You suggested that we hire somebody to drive us around? How do we do that exactly?

I know I ask a lot of questions, it's my first time to plan these trips... Thanks, again!:)

Sorry for late reply!

You are most welcome!!

Here, I’d like to introduce myself first. I’m working for a Germanic electronic system company which has a office at No.500 Zhang Yang Road Pudong, Shanghai, China. And as a customer service engineer. I’m living in SIP Suzhou. I’m not professional guide. But I’m very familiar with Suzhou, its traffic, scenic spots and culture, etc..

I think two days is enough to travel around Suzhou. Suzhou is very close Shanghai, so the weather is similar.

If you really want the option, I can do your driver. I have a vehicle(Volkswagen-PASSAT, has insurance for passengers). Rental is RMB260.00/day(including gas fee, park fee and toll). Also can help you to arrange your Suzhou trip, book the hotel/hostel and the restaurant in Suzhou.

Travel Plan:
1st day,
7:00 take morning train to Suzhou
7:45 arrive Suzhou, pick up you at Suzhou railway station.
8:15 hotel/hostel check in
8:30 depart from hotel/hostel to the tiger hill.
9:00~10:30 visit the tiger hill
10:50~12:00 visit the west garden(temple) or the Lingering Garden
12:00~13:00 have lunch (at Shantang street)
13:00~13:45 visit Shantang street
14:00~16:30 visit the Humble Administrator’s Garden
16:45~17:30 visit the Surging Wave Pavilion
18:00~19:45 have dinner at Guanqian street(including shopping)
20:00~21:00 take night boat to visit Suzhou

2nd day,
8:15 depart from Suzhou to Tongli Town(The Ancient Towns of Water Country)
9:00~14:00 visit Tongli Town(including lunch time)
14:00 depart from Tongli to Suzhou
15:00~17:00 visit Panmen Scenic Area or Hanshan Temple
18:00 take train to Shanghai

Wow! This is impressive, Jason. Thanks! Really! :) Are you sure you're not a tour guide? :)

I apologize for the late response as well - just logged in.

I want to be sure of the finances, and if I may ask how much should I budget for the entire trip, including entrance fees and accommodation. Is it expensive in Suzhou? How far should we purchase our train ticket and motel/hotel reservation? We hope to get great deals...?! :)

Have a blessed day!

Will keep in touch. Thanks, again! :)

Hi, Just take a train to Suzhou. This is best & very convient.

Further you can ask a Tour Guide for help or just go round by yourselves. Both OK.

Enjoy yourself in Shanghai & Suzhou.

Your sincerely,

I’m glad to receive the response from you!

Generally, Suzhou consumption is cheaper than Shanghai’s. So you can spend same money and enjoy much better service in Suzhou.

Below I have listed the budget for your Suzhou trip. The budget is only for your reference.

The entrance fee for 2 persons: Total about RMB650(for the gardens I listed)

Train Ticket(Suzhou - Shanghai or Shanghai - Suzhou): RMB22/person

Double Room A(Motel): RMB198 or Double Room B(Motel):RMB228
<The hotel is near by Guanqian Business Street. The size of Double Room B is larger than Double Room A. http://www.motel168.com/0056.htm )

Vehicle Rental: RMB260/day(including gas fee, park fee and toll)

Meal Fee for 2 persons per day: I think RMB200 is enough

Total cost can be controlled within RMB2000 for your Suzhou Trip.

I hope you’ll enjoy your time in Suzhou!
