I'm thinking of visiting one of these two cities while I'm visiting china later this month. I am looking mainly at shopping in both places. Does anyone have opinions favorable/unfavorable about these two places?

Some of my friends are working in Guanghzou. They tell me the city is not as security as others. Perhaps you have be more careful about all your valuables when you're shopping there.

I can handle it. If I can handle E. Europe, and morocco I figure I can handle anything.

your friend comments not correct at all. Do you know Chinese biggest and only Export international Fair there?( Canton fair)
Million people all over the world visiting Guangzhou every year minimum two times during fair.
Some little problem exists. Can you name a city there no problem?
Sorry to hear such a comment from a Chinese people.

coming from the west, i was told the same as Evening say.
however as Kruuth said it, i think we seen more danger and crime in the west.
i spend 8 days in Guangzhou last year, this year (2007) i will land in Guangzhou as my port of entry in to China.

Mr Lion don't be hard on her, to Chinese people from other provinces and cities, Guangzhou is perhaps to hot to handle, God knows.
generally speaking China is a very low crime society.

But Evening is also correct, I think. I have just come to Guangzhou and I believe it has some areas which are worse than most cities in China....which is what she said, she wasn't comparing with the rest of the world!

I would pick Guangzhou over Wuhan.
