Is individual trekking in 3-gorges area possible

I find some information on organised trekking, 3 or 5 day trekkings in the smaller gorges (Wu Xia, badong, Xiling,...often not clear hat they exactly do).I wonder whether it is possible to do this idividually, in the same way as the tiger leaping hiking near lijiang. Where can i find more info, more detailed maps etc. Or is this with rising waterlevels out of the question? TX Benny
