Is there anyone with info about the new Express Bus Service between Beijing and Shanghai? Which Bus Station does it leave from? Have you or anyone you know been on it? Thanks in advance for any replies.

| Hi, Marawlins, Here in Shanghai normally we will choose direct trains (12 hours) or flight ( 2 hours) instead of Bus ( also per our view, train is more safe than long-distance bus ). So we don't prefer you to choose bus from Safe point and speed view. Yours sincerely, Susan Zheng(China Tour Guide) MSN: hotmail.com|Susan205060 |

Dear Susan Zheng Thank you for your reply - I read that the Express Bus takes the same 12 hrs as the train and that some people actually prefer the bus to the train! I also thought that on the bus I would see more of China.....but you say that the bus is not safe? I guess I should re-consider my travel plans. Thank you. marawlins

I am always being told that the buses in China are not safe. That's true in all countries as there are more road accidents than train accidents. When I look at some of the driving I see the point, but to be honest I have been using buses a lot recently and MOST (hmmm!) have been OK. In China there must be many tens of thousands of bus journeys each day... and people willingly use them.... so if you want to take the bus son't worry too much :) The big advantage of buses is that booking them is so much easier... booking trains must usually be done so far in advance but you can usually roll up at the bus station and get a ticket for that say.

Thanks for your email. I agree with your remarks re safety - I have travelled by bus all over the world in cluding India - and China. I still don't know have any info re the Bus timetable between Beijing and Shanghai - so I can't decide. But thanks for your helpful comments. marawlins

I had friends who took the Beijing -- Shanghai bus just before May holiday week and they had the worst experiences ever. Suffice to say that none of us will be trying it ever again.

Thank you for your email - but can't you tell me a bit more? I would be very grateful for any information - even if it is not good. I have more or less decided to go by train - but I would still like to hear of your freind's experience of the bus - for the next time! Thanks.

It is boring to travel from Beijing to Shanghai by bus because it always drives in JING-HU freeway. So have a rest during the journey is a advisable choice.

More passengers on the bus than was officially allowed. Non-stop smoking. Those were 2 of the main problems.

ELLYSE... I am surprised by that on such an Express Bus. I know it happens but on th major routes that has not been such an issue for me. And actually the smoke is worse in aircon buses than old rural buses with the windows wide open

You know what's the worst? An "aircon" bus with no aircon, on the South Silk Road with tons of chain smokers. No ventilation at all and in the summer heat.
