Yes yes yes!!! In less than a week I'll be in China!!! I'm sooo excited!!! I have everything organized by TravelChinaGuide, a 13-day tour to Beijing, Xian, Guilin, Yangzou and Shanghai. However, I have two free days at Beijing at the beginning of my journey. I plan to shop like crazy, and I'd love to visit some curious typicall or out-of-regular-tour places, like animal markets, flea markets, busy streets, truly chinese restaurants, anything that doesn't include monuments or normal touristic stuff. I'd love to hear suggestions!!!!! Thanks!

That's great you have free days for your own to explore the city. Do come to visit some Hutongs by yourself.

Great, May001 :) Now it's my turn to discover what Hutongs are and where can I find them.

Any suggestions about typicall or out-of-regular-tour places, like animal markets, flea markets, busy streets, truly chinese restaurants, anything that doesn't include monuments or normal touristic stuff will be greatly appreciated.

Laosunjia Paomo is a must in Xi'an. It is one of the famous local snacks!

Usually the Paomo consists of a mutton or beef soup served with wheat flour flat bread. The hard bread is broken up and added to the soup. Then the mixture is eaten along with pickled garlic cloves.

You can find Laosunjia restaurant in Dong Da Jie, the busiest street to the east of the Bell Tower!
