Since the 29th Olympic Games wil be held in Beijing, many people predicate that China will be No.1 in 2008 Olympic Games. In 2004, China ranked the second place after US. Russia, the third. This is the best record in history. At present, more and more Chinese hope that China could realize its dream----- to be No.1 next year. Will the dream come true?

Yes if we use the present system of calculating, but there is an alternative one. In this sytem you divide the medals gained by the size of the population :) Much fairer.

Anyway we should not be adding up medals it is against the spirit of the Olympics. The Olympics should be about the efforts and achievements of the sportsmen and women, not chauvanism.

Yes, Paul. But the reality is different. The Olympic Games has been commercialized. Why do so many countries want to hold the Olympic Games? One of the reasons is that they are eager to make profits from it. The athletes also fight for the high awards. Once they get golden medals, they will become famous and their motherland will award these national heroes and heroines. I have to say that the spirits of the Olympic Games has been changed to some extent.
