![]() | Results of a survey on 4,000 white-collar workers conducted by a Shanghai community service center showed that 95 percent were open to sharing an apartment, 85 percent of whom would prefer a housemate of the opposite sex. Why does so many youngsters prefer cohabiting with a mate of opposite sex? The main group of people who engaged in cohabitation are young professionals. For young professionals, having become accustomed to a gregarious lifestyle after living in university dorms for four years, after a hard day's work and interaction with colleagues on a strictly business level, they are reluctant to come home to an empty apartment. In order to preclude psychological isolation, such young professionals prefer to cohabit with another person of opposite sex. Someone may question why they choose the opposite sex. The following view held by some cohabitants can serve as a reason: women commonly agree that lodging with a man brings a feeling of security, and men appreciate going back to a home with a pleasantly feminine touch. As the Chinese saying goes, things become easier when a man and a woman pair up. |

![]() | Well, sometimes things become easier only when a man and a woman share a lot in common so as to live in harmony. Otherwise, things will become horrible. Quarrel, fight. Hot War and Cold War. By the way, when a 'Cold War" breaks out, gentlemen, you are supposed to compromise or even surrender unconditionally.Life is unfair, and that is it. |

![]() | Leonardo, what you have said usually happens between lovers, quarrel, cold war etc. To my understanding, cohabitation here does not imply that the two people are the lovers. They just share the same apartment. But who knows? Maybe they will become lovers if they get along very well with each other. |

![]() | Well, perhaps, for women, things become easier when a man and a woman pair up, but for men, probably not, things may become more troublesome. Why? You are quite clear. |

![]() | Leopold, you were talking about flat sharing. In this case we cannot use the word cohabiting because that has come to mean living as a couple (including sex of course). But why share with oopposite gender (thgat is the 'politically coirrect' term, not 'sex'). I would rather share with a sweet smelling, well mannered, pretty lady than a noisy, sweaty, farting male! But why the hell should a woman ever want to share with a male...sure beats me!!! (Oh an aside. How do you turn a pretty woman into an ugly one? Answer: give her a cigarette! :) ) |

![]() | ahhhh...but if a woman smokes a cigar!!! ;-) |

![]() | If a woman smokes cigar, she is not a gentle lady, not a good wife, not a kind mate. |

![]() | LEONARDO, Not agree with your comments. If I allowed to smoke, why not my friends or wives? |
