Well, I am not alcoholic. Drinking alcohol is not good for health. My friend's father is a drunkard. Everytime when he got drunk, he abused my friend and his mother. I hate such a drunkard.

The nicest chinese spirit wine I ever tasted was during a delightful banquet-style meal in Luoyang, just a few years ago.. the wine was apparently named after a famous emperor of olden times whose motto was along the lines of drink and be merry... the problem is I did drink, and was merry, and cannot for the life of me find reference to the drink anywhere! :-(

In China, there is a saying ' 饮酒作乐' . It reads 'Yin Jiu Zuo Le', which probably means "drinking wine and seeking please'. In ancient times, this saying was often used to describe the living of corrupt and and morally declined emperors and aristocrats. It carried much derogatory sense. Drinking wine was once regarded as a kind of hedonism. Now, drinkig wine becomes a kind of social practice in China. Can any one share us some different practices about drinking wine a in other countries?

When I was a child, Leopold219, my neighbor from Italy made his own red grape wine in the basement of his home. The entire family, including the children, drank wine with their lunch and dinner every day. The food was mostly Italian pasta dishes. For whatever reason - even with the regular consumption of wine - no one in their family had problems with alcohol.

The Irish drink heavy beer and whisky. Alcoholism seems to be a problem for the Irish.

I have heard people speculate that certain nationalities are "genetically pre-disposed" to alcoholism, like the Irish and the native American seem to be. I consider that speculation to be pure mythology.

"The Irish drink heavy beer and whisky. Alcoholism seems to be a problem for the Irish. "

Griz, do you mean every Irish can drink a lot of wine while never got drunk? Do you think which nationals are alcoholic?

In China, it is said that people from Northeast China can drink a lot while never got drunk. Man from Harbin are said to have the largest Beer-Belly. How about the situation in your country?
