Today, thousands of New Yorkers commemorate the 2001 terro attack through various means. I still remember the awful day when the plane hit the twin towers: siren wailing, fire-fighters risking their lives to save others. This tragedy has a big impact on US and the whole world. After 9.11, US strengthened its military defence policy and eavesdropping system. American economy fell into recession.

More obviously, the catastrophe transformed the US norms. On one hand, people began to return to the synagogue to pray for others. The daily antagonism melted away. Before that tragedy, most average Americans were busying in competing against each other to become rich. Blind pursuit of material weath made people become mean and lean. The disaster told average US citizens that there were some things more valuable in daily lives; friendship, love between husbands and wives, fathers and sons, mothers and daughters.

On the other hand, numerous people got gloomy with the state of the world. Duirng the aftermath of 9.11. general opinion studied made our that we lived in a world of hatred and and greed. Some youngsters even believed in fatality. However, stil there are some others who argued that we still lived in a world of love. Just the tagline of the movie " Love Actually" reads: when the plane hit the twin towers, none of phonecalls from people on board were messages of hatred or revenge, they were all messages of love. If you look for it, you will find that love is actually all around."

Anyhow, the catastrophe did change the US norms indeed. 9.11 has great military and political significance. In post-9.11, in military, US took a pre-emptive attack policy. The homeland security was put on the US top agenda. On this special day, let us (all peace-lovers) pray for the martyrs dying in that tragedy.

I visited the US some days after this date and met with Morrmons who do not fight in any war, so was suprised by their anger at this.
When you pull back the the window covering that is called culture, we are all the same inside with the same dreams for our familys.
If there is a Hell, then the people who planned this crime should be in it now.
So as you say Jonny512, we should try to love each other a little more.

Wish war and animosity far from us, and let all the people around the world enjoy peace and prosperity.

Don't be too innocent. Human beings are always greedy and selfish. That's why there's the war and terrorism!

MAY001, you are one of the people Johnny512 has mentioned:
"numerous people got gloomy with the state of the world. Duirng the aftermath of 9.11. general opinion studied made out that we lived in a world of hatred and and greed."

Don't be gloomy with the state of the world. Think about the situation on that disastrous day.

"When the plane hit the twin towers, none of phonecalls from people on board were messages of hatred or revenge, they were all messages of love. If you look for it, you will find that love is actually all around."

Yeah, love is actually all around. The victims left us the messages of love instead of messages of revenge.

The "Ground Zero" in 2001 was viewed the darkest day in America homeland since the Peal Harbor incident in 1941. Homeland security was put on the top agenda after the catastrophe. The worst thing is probably the scar that 9.11 ectched in Americans' soul and mind. The grief for the loss of the beloved ones was not easy to be comforted. Today, numerous Americans are still living the shadow of 9.11.
