From 1950s to mid 1970s, members of CPC and soldiers of People's Liberation Army were hailed as role models for Chinese people. The typical hero of that era was communist do-gooder ' Lei Feng'. He was respected for his selfless devotion to Party and the whole society. Since late 1970s, China entered a relatively peaceful and stable time. The old heroes in the revolutionary era were paned out. Chinese people had more material desire. So some business entrepreneurs were viewed as role moedel. From late 1980s to 1990s, Bill Gates was regarded as role model for many Chinese youngsters, who were eager to obtain material affluence. At this peaceful times, young people are still seeking inspiration from others, in particular from heroes or icons. The "pop stars' began to emerge as role models for many youngsters to bridge the "icon blank" . For many Chinese younsters, sports stars such as 'Yao Ming' and 'Liu Xiang are their heroes. Also, movie and pop singer stars like Jackie Chan and Coco Lee are also hailed as icons. The change of heroes reflect the transformation of social norms in China. Do you adore heroes/icons? LEONARDO Points: Join Date: May 21, 2007 Status: Offline	When I was in primary school, our teachers also told us to learn from ' Lei Feng'. As for people of my parents' generation, Chairman Mao was their role model. In 1980s, Chinese Women National Volleyball Team has won several championships, and gained international reputation for China. They became the heroine of that era. Now, Liu Xiang and Yao Ming have become inspiration for many younsters.
