GUEST22635	My experience - I am a Canadian with a criminal record, and got a visa to enter China recently. It was a break and enter and theft x 2 conviction from 20 years ago in Canada - suspended sentence, no jail time. As this is defined as a crime of "moral turpitude" according to the US Dept of Homeland Security (whole separate story) I was concerned that I wouldn't get this approved. I applied for a category F, single visit business visa, and stated on the application that I have a criminal record. I also included a separate page with a brief explanation of the crime along with my current situation - different person now, remorseful, married, kids, good job, etc. The visa was approved in the usual amount of time with no issues. I arrived in China this week.

GUEST37589	I was recently told by an expert in China law that they generally do not do background checks and that I should just check "no" even though I have a criminal record. I will do just that.

GUEST18014	I am trying to get a Residence permit for Austria as a student and have 2 felonies from 15 years ago. The application asks about any prior cases and states that I must produce a Good Conduct record. Any thoughts?

I have have felony drug offences in 2001 and 2003 (both trafficking), also in in the mid 90's a felony charge for access of a credit card making machine (intent to fraud). I am worried about applying for a visa to visit a woman I have been talking with for 8 months. What should I do? Apault, could you please resond to this and tell me your opinion. I worry that being barred for lying could prevent my future with this woman, but also being automatically denied based on 3 of them within 15 years. Clean for 4 years and almost finished with probation.

Please help, especially your opinion APAULT. I have 3 felonies: 94 (posession of counterfeit access device with intent to fraud). This was posession of a credit card making machine (federal). 2nd in 2001 for Drug trafficking and same charge again in another state for same offence in 2004 which I am almost finish with my probation. I am deeply worried if I disclose even just the drug charges (ecstasy) in vague terms of it being only 1 offence during that time that I may get refused. Not to mention possibly ommitting the 94 offence. I found out that I can only obtain a copy of the national report from the FBI by snail-mail. Does anyone think these situations if all disclosed will bar me from the chinese visa? Or If I disclose it as "drug transfer about 5 years ago" and not mention anything else is best? I am at a lost. The chinese woman who I want to meet said to lie at first, but then she said to not lie, we are both 50/50 about what to do. Please help, anyone.

GUEST37589	As I keep saying just say "no". they don't check. What part of saying "no" do you not understand? But I also have to beg the question. Why don't you just meet a chinese woman who is already here?
