What is this fruit? 火龙果

My gal told me she was eating this fruit when she called. She did not know the English name for it. I translated it as "fire dragon fruit" but that doesn't help me know what she was eating.

I think I have eaten one of those a long time ago.

When you open the outer skin is the fruit filled with small red berries about the size of peas?

...and now I need to know the English name for that...because for the life of me I do not recall what the name of it is!

In english it is just called "dragon fruit" The inside looks like a melon, it is white with small black seeds. The taste is quite similar to honey melon too.

Yes, I love the 'Dragon Fruit' as described with sweet white flesh and tiny black seeds, which are smaller and softer than poppy seeds. This is a very rare fruit to be found in the USA. And when I have seen it in the super market, it is very expensive. I can always find it fairly cheap in the markets in Guangzhou, and I buy it everytime I visit my Lao Po :) :)

BTW, I am leaving later today, to visit Lao Po again, in GZ for two weeks !! :) YAY !!!!!!

Will return on Oct. 1st and will be in China both for her birthday and for the Autumn Harvest Festival !! I love my visits to the PRC !!!!
