Hi all
I'm taking a family of 4 (2 adults + 2 teenagers) from Guilin to Hong Kong and then on to Shanghai.

I was wondering if it is best to get a luxury bus from Guilin to Guangzhou so we can have a look around this city and do some shopping or whether we should just go direct to HK (Kowloon). I'm not really interested in flying given the cost but would consider either the bus or soft sleeper.

That way we some some accommodation money while we travel.

From HK I was planning a train to Shanghai direct or is it better to make my own way to Guangzhou and get a train from there to Shanghai.

Thanks in adavnce

Hi,
So far as I know, there is not direct train from HK to Shanghai, so I think you had better to go there via Guangzhou or Shenzhen. Guangzhou is charming city and good place for shopping, I am sure you can get almost all you want in this city. If you come to Guangzhou, welcome to contact me, I can be your guide here. I am from this city and I can speak fluent English. My e-mail/msn is:hotmail.com|caijun_Bill and cell phone No. is (0)15975607958.
Wishing you enjoy a great time in China.
Bill

Hi,SYDNEY9,

1)Right, fly from Guilin to HK directly is expensive, so normally you can fly from Guilin to Shenzhen then by bus or ferry to HK. Of course, you also can choose luxury from Guilin to Guangzhou.

2)For Guangzhou, you can do some shopping , but pls take care your bags away from thieves since it is NOT safe in Guangzhou compared with Beijing/Shanghai.

3)If you already choose bus from Guilin to Guangzhou then next you can take direct train from HK Jiulong to Shanghai since you already experience Guangzhou. It has no meaning for two times.

Enjoy!

Yours sincerely,

Bill above is WRONG. There's most definitely a direct train for Hong Kong -- Shanghai, it takes 20 hours and departs every other day.
I hope you already know that to go Guilin -- Hong Kong -- Shanghai you will need double-entry visas for China.
