![]() | This morning, China's Information office of the State Council held a news conference. The Vice Minister of the Agricultural department said that in the fast growth of farmers' income in the recent years, the income gap between farmers and urban residents is increasing rather than decreasing. There is an average difference of 8172.5 RMB between a farmer and an urban resident. The urban-rurual income ratio is 3.28:1. In China, farmers are left far behind. Chinese farmers are probably the least subsidized compared with their European and US counterparts. |

![]() | What we called "family farms" disappeared from America long ago. The problems for farmers were similar to what you report, LEOPOLD219 - although I doubt the income differences were quite that severe. What happened here is that huge corporations bought up all of the farmland and the farmers moved on to different lives. Food production in the USA is now done by "agri-business" corporations. Of course, that's a simplified report of what happened, but fair. |

![]() | Hi, Griz. Do you think the agri-business way can help more farmers to fight against poverty? There's an old saying that Agriculture plays the most important role in one country. Sadly, famers are always poor in China. |
