A notice from Embassy of the People's Republic of China in the USA tells:

The Visa Office will be closed on October 1 (Monday,the Chinese National Day), 2007.

So, for those US citizens who plan to apply China, it is better to apply earlier.

But in China, the offices will be open this coming Saturday and Sunday, I have ben told.
