![]() | Hi all, I am just wondering if anyone knows a few good places to visit during National Week that is close to Dalian. We have been looking at the train schedule and want to see more of China, in particular Liaoning province. We have looked at changchun, chifeng and a few others, but I ws wondering if anyone has been to any of these places (or others close to it) and have recomendations? thanks |

Shenyang is the capital of Liaoning, large industrial city with lots of stuff to do: especially worth seeing are the Gugong (Imperial Palace) and the tombs (Bei Ling and Dong Ling), there's also the snow TV tower. Dandong is worth a trip to see the border with North Korea and there is a war museum there. I used to live in Benxi and can safely say there's nothing worth visiting in the city itself, but I would recommend a day trip from Shenyang to see the Water Caves (Shui dong). Changchun is in Jilin Province, but in my opinion a much nicer city than Shenyang, though without such grand historical connections. A great sculpture park there, and also the offices from where Puyi (Last Emperor) used to run his "puppet" government. Changbaishan is also in Jilin Province. A mountain to climb with amazing natural scenery and famous "Heavenly Lake" (Tian chi). Keep in mind the October holidays are a nightmare time to travel and anywhere you go is going to be busy, so keep destinations to a minimum and do some thorough checking out of one or two cities is my advice. Why not check out the Liaoning Province & Jilin Province pages on here.... there's lots of reviews on places of interest around them. Whatever you decide, have fun :) |

Shenyang: http://members.virtualtourist.com/ Dandong: http://members.virtualtourist.com/ Benxi: http://members.virtualtourist.com/ A very off-the-beaten-path destination in Jilin province called Ji'an: http://members.virtualtourist.com/ There're actually 2 famous Heavenly Lakes in China, the other one is near Urumqi, in Xinjiang province. |
