Secretary of Defense Robert M. Gates presented a request for about 190 billion U.S. dollars before the Senate Appropriations Committee in an afternoon hearing on Wednesday. The fund will be used to wage the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. There is an one-third increase from the amount requested earlier this year. Some interest groups protested against the request.

I'll go you one further, Paul: Did you ever hear of a government agency that didn't ask for more money??? It is the nature of the beast.

...but military budget requests usually mean that some government contractor is selling us $600 USD toilet seats!

$190billion dollars?? wow, that buys a lot of oil nowadays. Couldnt the yanks have just bought the oil instead of invading to help themselves? would have saved a lot of time and human lives.
