Yangtse cruise(downstream)

guest13223 I am taking the yangtse cruise next year but not sure whether I should stop at Yichang or Wuhan and then fly back to Shanghai. If I take the cruise from Chongqing to Yichang, I can spent 2.5 days in Shanghai. Is it worthwhile to stop at Wuhan instead of Yichang?

The 3 gorges dam construction will be finished in 2009. All cruise ship can go as far as Yichang downstream, only Regal China goes from Chongqing to Wuhan 2-3 times a month. It is better off for you to stop in Yichang, then transfer a flight for Shanghai. You can take a bus from Yichang to Wuhan for 4.5 hours as well.

Nothing of interest to see in Yichang (other than the dam, maybe). Almost nothing of interest in Wuhan, apart from the Hubei Provincial Museum (with a marvellous set of ancient bells) and perhaps Yellow Crane Tower (one of China's 3 famous towers).
