I am planning a trip to Russia in a few months and am curious if anyone here has any experience with getting a Russian tourist visa in China. I expect it's possible to obtain one at the embassy in Beijing; but are there other options?

Actually, Beijing is NOT the place to be getting your Russian visa; unless you're a Chinese citizen or a long-term resident of China (and can prove so). Shanghai is where you should be heading.

I'm not sure how long it takes, if you're successful in getting one at all. I would say perhaps a week or so.

GUEST99240 Hi,
do you know any agencies in China that can send me by post an original (no fax, no mail) invitation to get a tourist visa for Russia?
Thanks a lot
