| I understand that Spring Festival 2008 begins on February 7th and ends on February 21st. Are some days of the Festival more important or more exciting than others? What types of activities are part of the Festival? Should I bring special gifts for my hosts and hostesses? Is getting married during the Spring Festival especially lucky or unlucky? It is a fair question since Valentine's Day is during the Festival. |

| Griz, the New Year's Eve (February 6th in 2008) and the Lantern Festival (February 21st) are the most important. Usually, family members get together at New Year's Eve and have a big dinner to celebrate the New Year's coming. During the Lantern Festival, more activities will be held, such as guessing riddles on the lanterns and eating theYuanxiao (元宵). You can get more info there: http://www.chinadaily.com.cn/ When visiting your hosts and hostesses, you'd better bring some gifts. Getting married during the Spring Festival is lucky. But you should choose a lucky day according to the 黄历. It tells you what you should do and what you should not do. |

| Hi,Griz, 1)Spring Festival 2008 period: 2/6/08~2/21/08 Feb 6th is the most important day since all family memebers will go back to hometown and get together. Normally during the two weeks, we will have celebration programms and every province programms are different. Feb 21th, we will hanging red lanters at the gate of our house and enjoy "Tang yuan" at this day. 2) Yes, you should bring special gifts for hosts and hostesses. We will suggest foreigner to take some special gifts from your country , this is better. P.S.: Pls don't take "clock " as gift to Chinese family during any festival since it is unlucky. 3) Many couples will choose Spring Festival period for wedding ceremony since it is lucky and lots of family members at home and they will help to celebrate for them. Enjoy! Yours sincerely, Susan Zheng(China Tour Guide) MSN: hotmail.com|Susan205060 |
