You do not indicate your nationality. IF you are not a native english speaker ( Canada, US, Aussie, UK ), you will find it very difficult to find a job teaching english. IF you are a native speaker, the demand here for your services is huge.

Schools here require that you have a degree, any university degree, in order to work. In my experience, having a foreign language teaching certificate carries no weight at all.

Salaries vary by city and / or region, but you can expect somewhere around 5000 rmb / month in most places. An apartment will usually be included. There is great latitude in living conditions, depending on your school. You may be given the keys to a 400,000 rmb apartment or you may live in a teachers dorm attached to the school.

You will likely be paid once a month. You should bring a couple of months living money to tide you over until your first pay period. The cost of living is quite low, so a few hundred $US/CDN, as an example, should be plenty in most places ( Beijing and Shanghai require more money ).

Good luck. There are some great jobs here, and some not so great ones. Be sure to ask your prospective employer about work visa's and residence permits. If you are told " no problem, we'll sort that out when you get here, DON'T go any farther with that school. You must have a valid work visa before you get here.

Sidiky. English teachers should also have correct English. So: My friend and I.....Etc. While this may sound picky, you know that a program compiler would not tolerate such inaccuracy.

I think you are unlikely to get work in the games programming area as there are plenty of young Chinese capable of doing the work, so you would not be eligible nor would you want thir pay and conditions. Once you have your BSc you have a good possibility of finding a job teaching. Do a search on the Net and you will find quite a few sites advertising jobs and providing general information. www.anesl.com is a good one to start with. As Wctman says you need quite a few hundred dollars to get you through up to nearly 2 months you are likely to arrive a week early and some don't pay until the 10th of the following month. As employer ethics and relevant laws are both weak, a few employers do not pay on time, so make sure you have access to funds from home.
