![]() | Right on Davec, Sorry about your dog though, I can feel the pain. Since I was a child, I had to see two of my dogs put down because of the illnesses that accompanies old age. Gong Li is not bad, I'd go for Hou Pei Cen though. Danny |

![]() | Danny, Thanks for your answers. "Dogs have a huge part in American life and we spend lots of time and money on them. The fees are endless, breeder fees, first round of shots that are part of vaccinations, registration into county records the list goes on and on. Even after all these troubles of dog ownership, you will find that 3/5 Americans own a dog (the other 2 must be cats or no pets at all) and some own 2 or more." Is this the very common phenomenon in USA? Raising pet animals are costly. It seems that that there is no poor in America. In China, there are also many pets-lovers, but may not be as many as in USA. In China, there is also a saying: Dog is the most loyal friend of human. |

![]() | Hi Mirandazhao, It is very common to see American own pets, not strictly to dogs and cats but other animals as well such as snakes and birds. Raising a pet, especially a dog is very expensive. But as with anything anybody does you can do the duty right, somewhat right or just wrong. The high ownership of pets In America doesn’t necessarily mean that Americans got money to burn. In what I consider wrong and have seen is that you can raise a dog with a collar, leash and table scraps. But that is not the problem in my opinion. The problem lies within that these dog owners who receive puppies from other owners who did not get there dogs spayed/neutered. And in the same manner they will in turn most likely not spay/neuter the dog unless the dog is female and becomes pregnant. If she does become pregnant there are three possibilities: 1. they let the female dog give birth and find homes for the litter and spay the dog. 2. They surrender her to the local county pound. 3. They abandon her somewhere so that the county picks her up without a trace of the owner. But let’s face it; if you’re feeding your dog’s table scraps and the only thing the dog owns is a collar and leash, the owner will just abandon the dog. To spay a dog is 185 bucks and to surrender her is 65 to the pound. I donate dog food to the local dog pound (Tax write off, I’d rather get my taxes to something I believe in instead of fat politicians sipping scotch from GOLD rim cups) so I am friendly with the staff and the things that I have seen from being let in is terrible. It’s definitely heartbreaking. So the right path to ownership starts with spaying or neutering dogs and cats. No matter what way you get them (breeder, friend, stray or pound) it’s the right thing to do. I did mention a “somewhat right” way to dog ownership and that is the belief of some dog owners that since they own a male dog that the problem will correct itself if we only spay the females which is totally flawed. |

![]() | Out of my three dogs, two were adopted from the pound. They don’t come with AKC papers because most likely, they were a result of mix breeding from the problem stated above. But they are the greatest dogs one could have, when adopted from the pound they come with a lot of incentives such as vaccinations and up to date health, neutering, micro chipping and county registration. The other is a Siberian Husky which I got through a reputable breeder with AKC papers. He is sort of “my” dog, I have spent over 5,000 on his pompous bitchass but that’s because he didn’t come packaged like the other dogs and because I raised him from a pup. I also have to spend double the time catering to him such as combing him every day because he has a dense long hair coat, brushing his teeth, putting together his meals and playing with him because he breaks things when he is alone for too long. He is the worst dog to own but the best friend you will ever have. Even though I have to get him out of trouble because he violates other female dogs even though he is neutered or that he shits all over his kibble if he doesn’t get cottage cheese over wet dog food on top of kibble in a bed of cold warm whole milk with the wet food juice drizzled over like a sauce, he is worth all the blood, sweat, tears and money I spent on him. Even just a paw that he puts on my foot after a tough day is enough to let go of the bitterness. I am not trying to brag about how I raised my dog but most Americans like me who adopt/buy these dogs that fit there personality (Guard dog, Aggressive dog, Friendly dog, Aloof/Independent dog (mine)) may seem obsessed but we raise these dogs just as we would raise another human being. A lot of Chinese people here in the community and neighborhood have called me crazy for the time and money I spend on my dog, but then again these are the same people who raise dogs with collar, leash and table scraps, then ditch the dog because its going to cost them more money and wait for another one to be available. So there it is, America is not full of rich people that raise pets. Danny |

![]() | Bitterness from work if you did not get that. I do not regret anything if that is what you thought. Damn we really need an edit option in this forum. |

![]() | DESTRUCKDOZ , I am really moved by your kindness to your pets. May I take the liberty to say that you have a very intimate relationship with your dog? You must be a caring and thoughtful man and pets owner. Thank you again for sharing your story with me. Hey, I also wanted to raise a pet, while I have been always anxious that the puppy spreads some bacteria. So I just gave up the idea. |

![]() | Danny, That is without doubt the funniest post I have ever read on this site. I am still laughing. I have two dogs, and now I am feeling guilty that I don’t look after them enough. But they love me with no reservation…unlike a Woman..ha Perhaps your dogs take after their Master? Dodger. |

![]() | Hi Mirandazhao, He He I wouldn’t call it “intimate”. He actually gets more intimate with my dads leg than anything else. But yeah we are close. Close enough that he can sense any mistrust that I feel towards someone that he would not let that person touch him. At first I thought it might have been a fluke but it was becoming more aware as he started to accompany me on my daily run. If you want to find a puppy that will be perfect for you, I would do lots of research for the kind of dog that will best suit your lifestyle and personality. For example for me I chose a Siberian Husky. I didn’t choose him for looks because that would be more trouble than how handsome he looks. He digs up my yards, his hair gets all over the place, brings me all his nightly killings (rabbits, ducks, chickens and birds) and so much more. But some of the reasons why we work well is that he doesn’t need to be played with ALL THE TIME like my other dogs who will never leave me alone. He is independent, if I didn’t feed him such a good breakfast and dinner, he could catch his own food LOL but I wouldn’t because that’s not cool. He is insanely intelligent and stubborn and the list goes on and on why we are compatible but what I wanted to explain was is that if you have a job that can get stressful because of deadlines, you definitely don’t want a dog that will make weeping sounds at night if you don’t play with him. And if you like to jog than a wiener dog definitely wouldn’t do since its legs are so short. So it’s pretty important that you find the dog that matches your needs and wants, ha ha much like a SPOUSE, but actually with a pet. And lastly if you are afraid of bacteria as in diseases, you can get the puppy vaccinated and tested for parasites in his stool when you find a veterinarian that you like. The puppy will be getting a round of shots the first 6 months and then afterwards you just give him a de-heart worming pill once a month, every month of the year afterwards, possibly some flea collars if they have flea’s. It is recommended that you bring the dog in for checkups as well for any additional meds. If you are afraid of the bacteria coming from the dogs mouth than you can brush his teeth or feed him certain treats that are made to make the dog gnaw on the treat as it cleans his mouth slowly, like “dental bones” Hope that helps, Thanks for the compliment. ![]() | Thanks Dodger, Ah its hard to compare different dogs in different places with different personalities. Personally I go by, if its working for me now I would just go with it because its pointless to follow others, even for me theres another Siberian Husky owner who's habits would dwarf mine in size. LOL Dodger, I swear, you are like in a line of people who have said that to me that I can't even keep track anymore. Ha Ha funny stuff, Danny |

![]() | Nice post just the same Danny. And I thought the English were a bit mad about their dogs. You leave them for dead. It is easy for me to clean my teeth as I put them in a jar and they smille at me all night, but nor sure that I would want to clean my Dogs teeth. Perhaps you are just a little barking mad? Dodger |
