It is really hard for an Easterner to win over the heart of the conservative and critical Judges of Academy of Art. In the controversial film Brokeback Mountain, An Lee touches upon the sensitive issue-homosexual. He views the issue from the perspective of an easterner. Lee says that he tries to explore to the subtleness of human nature. An Lee's success mostly arise from his good understanding of Chinese culture and American cultuire. In his another movie Wedding Banquet, An Lee well incorporates the two cultures. Do you know An Lee? What do you think of his movies?

However, while the judges of the Academy of Art are indeed critical they are far from conservative. And An Lee's Brokeback Mountain changed the meanings forever of many common cowboy and rodeo terms.

An Lee's new film Lust &Caution is said to contain some erotic scenes. It is inaccessible to a certain group of the audience.

The judges are indeed conservative. They are politically conservative. Since Brokeback Mountain talked about "gay rights"-a very sensitive issue in America. Brokeback mountain had won the " Best Motion Picture" at almost all the other important film festival, but it failed to claim the Oscar award. Politically, the judges are influnced by the political stance of the conservative Bush Administration. Remember, President Bush is strongly againt the "gay rights".
