Dave,
seems like Nikon would be the brand for pro photographers. Why is that? What in Your opinion is so good with it compared to other brands, for example Canon. I am interested because I think buying myself a new camera. My old is Canon 350D. I like photographing, especially nature (I am addicted to sunsets at sea, heh), but shoot only for my own pleasure.

Carlos it is just personal preference I think. Both Canon and Nikon have great systems and a good range of cameras.
I prefer the build quality of the Nikons, they are a little larger which is good as I am not a small man. The most essential item I use is a grid line viewfinder which my Nikons have but Canon you need to pay extra for.
I once dropped a Canon on my foot and it broke my toe, I still maintain if it was a Nikon it would have broken my whole foot!!
