Here is the ranking made by Forbes. The most valuable sporting team is Manchester United, worth 0.351 billion dollars.

No.2 Real Madrid,0.288 billion dollars.
No.3 Bayern Munchen, 0.255.
No.4 New York Yankee (a baseball team), 0.217.
No.5 Arsenal, 0.185.
No.6 AC Milan, 0.184.
No.7 Dallas Cowboys (NBA), 0.175.
No.8 Barca, 0.13.
No.9 Boston Red Sox (a baseball team), 0.125.
No.10 Washington Redskins (NFL), 0.12.

Just have a look at the ranking, six of them are football clubs. It seems that football is not only the most popular sport in the world but also a money machine.
