You will have to pay double purchase tax (3%) as a foreigner if you own a house outside of China. Although I have been told by many others (Chinese) that this should not be the case and I should only pay 1.5%. I am now contacting a lawyer in China. My apartment has just been built. I have not heard of anyone being asked to return the property after so many years, in fact many Chinese but a property for the son to own when they marry. J - Shenzhen
