MIRANDAZHAO, in the West it actually doesn't have a pleasant meaning at all.

I would agree with the first part of Alans connotation,

but not the second.
We have other words to describe that! :)

I think it's only superstition as well! He's just trying to make himself better. He CAN use other ways, like, confessing to his sin and adopting lots of pets who don't have shelter -- but to marry one? Haha...what does he think he's actually doing for the dog? The dog doesn't think anything of it! He's like "what's all the fuss?" hehe. I don't know what else to say....
