FINDING FACTORIES IN GZ
Nov 20, 2007 17:13
guest79226 Were coming to GZ to source & buy. We plan on going to the wholesale markets to see the selection/quality.

From what weve learned, most of the sellers at the wholesale markets in GZ are only trading companies, not factories.

My goal is to try to avoid trading companies and go direct. Sourcing and finding the factory is not so easy.

Based on our experience, even locals find it difficult to find the real manufacturer, and most just use BtoB sites Alibaba, which are trading companies and overpriced factories.

Lets say we go to these wholesale markets and find several products that interest us, but we want to find the factory. Any ideas on how to do this?

it is not possible all the time to negotiate and order directly from the many thousand of factories in Guangdong. This is bec of some biz practices too that deals through a trading company; and also if your intended quantity is not what the factories will do directly with u - unless of course its a huge significant quantity to them. And in some cases, the factories are OEM ones too. Unless one have a big enough order, then its better to use one of the trading houses as they also provide the necessary export documentation and shipment, logistics, and insurance etc.

GUEST79226 We have many concerns, but our main one is spending the major resources and risks to go to China and then have no other options than to buy from trading companies, not factories.

We've priced Yiwu products from various shops there and most seem to be traders with trading prices. Seems most factories dont put themselves out in the front lines as they dont need to as they sell to traders who do this.

Of course there are many other benefits of going to China, but based on our efforts it seems factories are hard to find. China doesnt seem to be concentrated with organized methods of finding factories. Even the wholesale markets are mainly traders.

The endless supply of trading companies run by locals always seem to have the factory contacts, so there must be a way to seek them out.

If you have any ideas or suggestions in this area please provide some insight.

Anyone know of any Chinese BtoB sites, besides alibaba?

hi GUEST79226 - as have mentioned there are many hundreds of factories in Guangdong near guangzhou area - but again what quantity are you looking at and what type of products which u are interested in. The use of trading companies and the role they play are specialised ones and hence trading companies are a good source and besides do believe that china made goods are priced very very competitively even when buying thorugh a trading company.
