GUEST40200 hardly representative of how americans celebrate thanksgiving. First off you need to understand what Thanksgiving actually is. a google search should clear that up for you but let me give you the highlights.

The Pilgrims (the original group of people who travelled from GB to north america) were very spiritual and family oriented. They held on to many traditions and one such tradition was a feast of thanks to God and the land for their bountiful harvest and good fortune throughout the year. It was a feast shared by the pilgrims and the native americans from the area which coexisted and actually taught some pilgrims how to cultivate some of the local flora.

This feast of thanks became a tradition and was carried on by all Americans for quite some time even without the government accepting it as a national holiday. Today, it is one of our most important holidays with families across the country getting together to partake in a feast of traditional foods. Roasted Turkey is the centerpiece, and many side dishes are made - many of which reflect the types of food the pilgrims would have eaten. Squash, yams, potatoes, corn, any type of animal caught or hunted, pan breads of various types, the list goes on.

The photos above should be labeled "American Soldiers Letting Off Steam at a pre-holiday celebration"

America is slowly being coerced into calling the period of time from Thanksgiving to New Years Day as "The Holidays" and many non-christian or atheistic people are pushing to have Christmas called something else entirely to get rid of the reference to Christ. Christmas is what it is - a celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. It does not need be renamed...if you don't want to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, then don't buy your friends presents, and don't eat ham on December 25th :)
