The news said that the salary of those people who work at Customs decline about 45% on average. Why does the state adjust the civil servants' salary? Some of them have black or grey income and this makes its people very angery. For this reason, many people require to publize those civil servants' salary to prevent them gaining black or grey income. They say that they have the right to know where their money were spent as a taxpayer. While some people argue that salary is privacy. People do not have the right to know how much others earn. What are your opinions? Should their salary be exposed?

Here is how I view this issue in the US:

I believe that salaries for all government jobs should be a matter of what we call "public record." ...and I while I understand a government worker might not like everyone knowing how much money they are paid - and see it as a violation of their privacy - in this case I say: "too bad, so sad, it comes with the territory of being a government worker."

It is easy for me to understand how a Chinese taxpayer might have the same feelings.

WCTMAN Points: Join Date: Dec 17, 2005 Status: Offline	The view in Canada is the same as that of Griz. Civil workers are not in private business, and so are not entitled to salary privacy. And, if the Chinese govt. is anywhere near being serious about curtailing corruption, posting civic salaries is a good place to start. Then, some of these civil servants can explain how they can afford to pay 600,000 rmb in cash for their apartments.

I strongly support that we should publize those Chinese civil servants' salaries. As I know, their salaries are not as high as those white collars in companies. Since they have power in their hands, it is very easy to increase their income. Just resort to their salaries, they can not buy their house at all. But the truth is that they live in better houses than those ordinary people. For those leaders, the government will offer them houses and cars. But in many cases, they use the car for private use. Very sad!

As a civil servant, you do not have high salary. However, you have power in your hands. Power can bring you money. That is why so many people want to be civil servants.
