I'm a second-year postgraduate studying in Guangdong University of Foreign Studies and I'm majoring in Foreign Linguistics and Applied Linguistics with a concentration on Intercultural Communication. At the moment I'm carrying out a research in relation to the acculturation strategies of the American expatriates in Guangzhou. I want to find out the predominant acculturation strategy among these americans as well as to analyze the related factors that influence their choices of different strategies. It is hoped that the thesis can contribute to increasing the knowledge of American and Chinese about the culture of each other, promoting acculturation for American expats during their communications and interactions with Chinese people, which in turn help improve communication effectiveness and reduce problems and misunderstandings caused by cultural differences. Subjects of my survey are Americans who are currently working or living in Guangzhou, including teachers and professors, overseas students, businessmen, diplomatic officials, or even housewives, etc. The anticipant number of the subjects is 100. Yeah I know that's a lot, but the more subjects I find, the more accurate my findings will be, right? And yet it's quite difficult and very challenging for me! Therefore, I'm wondering that if any of you could kindly help me to fill in the questionnaire. All the information collected is used for the academic study purpose only. The survey does not ask for your name and individual answer will be kept confidential and anonymous. There's not any open question, all you have to do is to write down the number based on your own experience in front of each item. And it will only cost you for about 3-5 mins to finish all the questions.
