US resident needs temporary car insurance for China tour
Nov 30, 2007 14:15
guest72210 I'm trying to find who offers the required insurance in China for a US resident bringing a car into China for a driving tour. Not sure what is required legally to drive in China as far as liability insurance. Looking for coverage for less than 2 months. Any ideas? Thanks!

A few questions first. where are you bringing your car from????????

Do you have permission to bring your car into China???

Are you planning to do a solo driving tour of China in your own car or will there be a group of you touring together with some sort of guide/translator??

Can you read Chinese characters and pinyin since this is all you will have if anything on smaller roads and towns.

You will also need a Chinese Drivers licence before you can drive any car in China unless you are on Hainan Is for the duration.

If yes to all the above, then you should be offered insurance or at least pointed in the right direction by the department that has given you permission to import your vehicle.

If you are bringing a vehicle from HK or Macau, then you should be able to find the necessary information from you Department of vehicle registration or similar.

Be interested to hear how your plans go.
