A report from China Daily said that China 's juvenile delingquecy is on the rise. The following an extract:

With the number of juvenile criminals increasing from 33,000 in 1998 to an estimated 80,000 this year, juvenile crime in China has become a "grave" problem.

Two-thirds of the 4 million criminal cases annually handled by courts involved juveniles suspects, according to data presented at a seminar on juvenile crimes and judicial justice in Beijing yesterday.

"Crimes committed by youngsters have been causing a growing amount of severe social damage," deputy secretary-general with the Chinese Society of Juvenile Delinquency Research Liu Guiming said at the seminar.

"Offenders' average ages have become younger, and they are committing new types of crime and forming larger gangs. They even commit crimes without specific motives, often without forethought."

Some of the most common crimes are robbery, theft, intentional injury, rape, gang fighting, and provoking fights and quarrels.

But last year, the number of crime categories grew 22 percent from 2005 to more than 150 types, as offences including new forms of fraud and gang-related Internet crimes were added to the law books.

Liu attributed the increase in crime to "the influence of broken families, the depletion of school education and incomplete social management".

In China, a saying goes: children are the future of a nation. The prospect of a nation depends on the mental and physical quality of its children and teennagers. A popular saying among the elder Chinese goes like this: Today's new generation is weaker and weaker than the old generations. In recent years, China's youngster was even nicknamed as " The Lost Generation". The increasing juvenile delingquecy
is caused by various factors such as the increase of broken families.

Here, I want to know how do you view the increase of Juvenile delingquecy. Who should be responsible for the rise of Juvenile crime cases? What about the Juvenile crime cases in your countries? Do your countries have the Lost Generation? (I know that US has a Lost Generation.)

I do not agree with Alan that it is the same everywhere.

However, crime (including juvenile crime) is commonplace in the US and many western nations. (Computer games, television-movies-modern music, broken families are all contributing factors.)

Western culture is an evil, corrupting influence; I always believed and hoped that China's people would be strong and wise enough keep the good and eliminate the bad. I guess that hope will not be fulfilled.

Griz, it is acknowledged that China has been under the strong influence of westen culture. However, How does the increasing juvenile crimes directly relate to the influence of western culture? Do you refer to the influence of western gangster movies?

I am sorry FRANKENS...

>>>How does the increasing juvenile crimes directly relate to the influence of western culture?

Social change is commonly seen first in the young. Computer games, television, movies, music and fashion are strong influences on young people.

The broken family in particular has a very negative effect on the kids' growth. Nowadays, many Chinese youngsters get degenerated morally. They disobey any rules.
