I would recommend stocking up with some Cafe Du Monde coffee. I like it in almost any preparation such as drip, espresso and viet filter but I would not recommend French press.

Matt, Tianjin has a couple of very good international hotels. One is run by a Swiss company. It serves very good Swiss/ German food.
Perhaps the Head Chef would sell you some of the ingredients that you need?

Do they have a Metro? It's a good place to find imported goods. As for coffee, there is decent Yunnan coffee sold in whole bean roasted packs for 45 yuan under the name Yunlan. Also coffee is produced in Hainan island. The Yunnan coffee we have - grind everyday - is comparable with the finest Italian coffee (from blind tastings)
