Hello all, I am new to this forum. I am planning to cruise the Yangzte from Wuhan to Chongqing or the other with my parents. 3 of us together. How much will the shortest tour costs and can I do it on my own ? Will it be cheaper to book a tour in Wuhan or Chongqing ? Must I join a tour ?

Better off to take a domestic cruise ship down the river from Chongqing to Yichang, then transfer a bus to Wuhan for 4.5 hours. Because downstream takes a less day than upstream. The domestic cruise ship is not expensive, it is not necessary to join a tour group. Cheers!

Wanzhou to Yichang you can do in a day on the hydrofoil but you will not get the benefit of a side trip on Shennong Xi or the Lessor Three Gorges. I personally recommend the former which is at Badong. A stop here will require two days. You can book the trip up Shennong Xi on the day you arrive in Badong for the following day Y150 although I have heard it may have increased lately. Day 1 Am Chongqing to Wanzhou but bus Afternoon Wanzhou to Badong by Hydorfoil Overnight in Badong Day 2 Am Tour Shennong Xi Afternoon Badong to Yichang by Hydrofoil and bus from the new dam sight.

All cruise ships are now passing through the locks again. Some of these had been suspended for some months. So if you want to see the dam and experience the massive locks then a cruise ship is the best way to do this. The hydrofoil begins at the dam site -ie does not pass through so you can't actually see much of the new dam.
