Today in history, (1937) more than 300,000 Chinese lost their lives in a six-week massacre that took place in December 1937 when Japanese troops occupied Nanjing. A new 25,000-square-meter extension of the memorial hall was inaugurated. It houses original remains, sculptures and historical records of the massacre. Japanese soldiers buried Nanjing civilians alive.
