| The Cantonese Opera is very popular among the local population. In its development, there have emerged several schools of singing: Ma Shizeng's, Bai Jurong's, and Hongxiannu's. Hongxiannu's singing especially has lingering charm. The operas, "Searching the Academy" and "Guan Hanqing," co-performed by Ma and Hong, are excellent examples. "Storms over Mountain Village," in which Ma acted the leading role is a successful work of Cantonese Opera reform. |
